Ontario well represented for Interski 2011

Every four years the Interski congress is a chance for the participating countries to share technical and teaching approaches through high-end demonstrations and workshops.

Interski began in 1951 in Zurs, Austria with 110 participants from 8 countries. Still an uneasy time as international relationships still suffered among the consequences of the Second World War, Interski brought together competing political views to share a love for skiing. The next Interski will be in 2011at St. Anton, Austria and is expected to draw over 1000 participants from 36 countries.

The Canadian Team selection is based on skiing skills, contemporary teaching methodology and the presentation skills of the individuals. Each step in the selection process is a commitment to the professional development both for the candidates and the conductors.

The selection process for the CSIA Interski team concludes this season. 100 CSIA Level 4 members participated in the initial camp last season with 52 making the cut. The next camp is in January and will focus on high performance choreographies and coaching methods.

After the January camp the team will be reduced to 26 which will get invited to the final camp in the spring where the chosen 10 will be selected.

Ontario is so far well represented with both Jim Morris and Steve Young still in the running to make the team.
