The anticipation of the season is on every skier’s mind. When will the snow arrive? Will it stay? How much snow will we get? I have read many different reports from the Farmer’s Almanac to the Environment Canada’s prediction of how El Nino will affect the weather patterns this year.
Unfortunately they all contradict each other.
So I will try my hand at it instead; The Peever Prediction is, “when the snow hits the ground (whenever that is) we will find good company in old friends, relive past glories and share new experiences and smiles while we ride the lifts and carve some sweet arcs. After all, this is not just our winter work it is why we smile when the first flakes fall.”
We begin our new season with some changes. I would like to thank Jason Young for his contribution to the CSIA Ontario Board of Directors. Jason had to make a very tough decision, and in his 5th year on the board and 2nd year as Chair; Jason has decided to step away from the Board due to some changes in his life that have resulted in new time constraints. Jason was the reason I became interested in the Board and I have followed his lead and direction until now. Please thank Jason when you see him this season for his dedication and hard work.
I will now take over the Chair position and welcome John Martin to the Vice Chair role. We will strive to be as good as or better than previous boards with the well being of our organization and continued service to our membership in mind.
The Level 1 program is starting off strong with good leadership. Sandy, Mark and the Level 1 committee are building upon ideas and the direction they took last season in an effort to continue to grow our biggest and most important program in Ontario.
We have also made improvements to our websites and publications and even a third (Holiday edition) magazine for our members.
Don’t forget to visit www.csiaontario.com and register online for PTS’s, modules and events. Please view our new magazine issues on www.skiproontario.com as well. A youth committee has been created consisting of 11 up and coming ski instructors that wish to help us realize how we can better reach the youth in our sport and organization. Their ideas have been plentiful and inspiring. Look for a “Youth Committee” report in our next publication.
I look forward to seeing you on the hill this season. Please speak to your board representatives regarding any questions or concerns; we are here to act on your behalf.
Have a great season,
Jim Peever
CSIA Ontario Chair
