Georgian Peaks

On August 20th Environment Canada reported that 11 tornadoes touched down
across Southern Ontario. Unfortunately Georgian Peaks was one of the touchdown locations. In total 225 trees were lost, 8 on-hill buildings were destroyed, the Whalen Alpine Centre lost it’s roof and suffered major damage and 14 homes in the adjacent community were also damaged. The three staff that were working in the Whalen Alpine Centre ran for cover as they described what sounded like a ‘freight train passing buy’, fortunately no one was injured. The F2 funnel cloud ripped across the bottom of the hill, across the highway and into the Georgian Bay where it dissipated. Repairs are well underway across the resort and they anticipate no delays in opening.
